ESSEX ROCK & MINERAL SOCIETY

The Essex Rock & Mineral Society is an amateur geological society which aims to cater for a wide spectrum of ages, expertise & interests in rocks, minerals, fossils and lapidary. We have a full lecture programme and run a number of organised field trips during the year.

FRIENDS OF HAVERING MUSEUM

A group for supporters of the museum; our aims are to stimulate interest in the museum, act as a voice of support and encouragement, purchase items for the collection and sponsor exhibitions and activities. Friends can be active in joining in with museum activities or simply enjoy participating in social events.

The club has been serving the interests of short wave listeners, electronics enthusiasts and radio amateurs for over 40 years. Lectures on associated subjects, library, equipment loan scheme, surplus equipment sales and national competitions entered make this a useful club to belong to.

HAVERING NUMISMATIC SOCIETY

The Havering Numismatic Society was founded in 1967 to encourage coin and medal collecting in the area. We welcome new members of all ages who would like to make friends and learn more about the history and geography of coins and tokens, both modern and old.

HAVERING WRITERS’ CIRCLE

Havering Writers Circle aims to encourage and assist the development of writers in Havering. Members vary from published authors to absolute beginners. We read each other’s work, provide constructive criticism and discuss various aspects of the writer’s craft. We hold workshops and receive guest speakers at intervals throughout the year.

We have interesting speakers at our monthly meetings and outings planned to historical houses. The society operates the Upminster Tithe Barn Museum of Nostalgia for the London Borough of Havering, where entry is free on Open Days.

ROMFORD & DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The society was founded in 1956. We hold monthly meetings (excluding July and August), featuring talks on local topics. Since 1968, we have produced an annual journal the Romford Record, containing items of local historical research or interest. We also hold regular outings and produce five newsletters a year.
